Description: Coriander is an annual herbaceous plant of the Apiaceae family with a straight bare stem, up to 70 cm high, and a spindle-shaped root. The lower leaves of the herb have large long petioles, with broad lobes, and the upper leaves are short petioled, with narrow linear lobes. Coriander blooms in June and July with white or pink flowers collected in umbels usually with 3 to 5 rays. The fruit of the medicinal plant is ovoid, hard, with 10 curved or 12 straight ribs. It is grown as a spice and for the valuable essential oil it contains.

Harvest time: Picking si July - August. The beasts are harvested shortly before their full maturation, when they are already fully developed, and some of them 2/3 are in their waxy maturity.
Chemical composition/Contents and properties: Coriander seeds/fruits contain up to 1.5% essential oil. In cultivated species, the essential oil can reach up to 3%. The composition of the herb also includes fatty oil, proteins, coumarin umbelliferone, vitamin C, organic acids, the steroid substance coriander, sugars and a small amount of alkaloids, rutin and other polyphenols.
Medicinal action and application: Coriander stimulates digestion, acts as an antispasmodic and relieves flatulence. Coriander has been found to have a weak antibacterial and fungicidal effect due to the presence of essential oil. Coriander is used for gastrointestinal, biliary and liver diseases, it has a choleretic and expectorant effect. The medicinal plant is used as a spice in cooking. The largest application is the sweet, canning, bakery, food, brewing, perfume and liqueur industries.
