The plant is of the Leskovi family - Corylaceae.

Hazelnut is seen as a tall bush with a height of up to 5 m and less often as a small tree. It is the most common shrub in deciduous forests in Bulgaria.

The fruits (Fructus Corylli) and bark (Common Cortex) are used. The fruits ripen in August - September and are harvested at full maturity when the kernel is already cured.

The leaves contain little essential oil and vit. C

Fruits (hazelnuts) contain proteins, fats, carbohydrates and minerals.

Root contains essential oil, tanning agents and dye yellow substance.

The lesion is used in varicose veins, varicose ulcers, in the treatment of arteriosclerosis and high blood pressure.
