The Lady’s mantle is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Rosaceae family. The rhizome is dark red to brown with many thin, innocent roots. Stems are up to 20 cm. long, branched, often flattened. The leaves are palmate, with the lower leaves having long handles. The stem leaves are covered by the stem. The flowers are small, yellow-green, lingered in many pimples. The plant has a slightly bitter and astringent taste. Blooms in June - July.

In Bulgaria, Lady’s mantle is situated in the grassy and humid places along the rivers and streams mainly in the mountains above 1600 m above sea level.

The overhead part (Herba Alchemillae) and the rhizome (Rhizoma Alchemillae) are used.

The stems are harvested in June-July and the rhizome in August-October. Cut the entire over-ground part of the plant during flowering. The rootstocks are dug up with the rootstocks after the seed has matured.

It is used in medicine as a healing agent, a diuretic, anti-diabetic, gastric colic. In veterinary medicine, rhizomes are used against foot-and-mouth disease in cattle.
