Mugwort ( Artemisia vulgaris) is a perennial herbaceous plant. The rhizome is cylindrical, almost vertical, multipurpose. The stalk is usually stiff in the base, right, high up to 1.5m, branched, often reddish to dark red. From one rhizome go up to 15 stems. The leaves are consecutive, on top of the dark green. The blossoms are small, trumpet. The fruit is small, spindly. The whole plant  Artemisia vulgaris has a slight aromatic smell and a burning taste. Blooms in September - October.

In Bulgaria  it is located along the dwellings, the uncultivated places like a weed, along the rivers up to 1800 m above sea level. Propagated by seeds or vegetative. Light-weight and cold-resistant.

Spruces (Herba Absinthii vulgaris) and roots (Radix Absinthii vulgaris) are used. Its picking up July - September. Cut the blooming stems about 25 cm from the top. The leaves of the uncut section of the stem can also be taken and added to the stalks. The roots are dug in the autumn when the aerial parts of the plant begin to wither.

In folk medicine,  Artemisia vulgaris is used to improve appetite and digestion because of its spasmolytic and sedative action. It is also used as a sedative in insomnia, nervous seizures, etc. The essential oil of the herb is the source of cineol production.
