Description: Calendula is a herbaceous annual plant of the Asteraceae family (lat. Asteráceae) with a height of 40 to 70 cm. The stem is erect, rough, branched at the top, and the leaves - sequential (lower spatula, upper oblong to lanceolate). The flower baskets are large, from 4 to 7 cm in diameter, mostly single at the tips of the twigs. The pagan yellow to bright orange colors are arranged in 2-3 rows. Calendula is an angiosperm dicotyledonous plant. It blooms from June to late autumn and has a specific pleasant aroma.

Collection time: Flowers can be harvested all summer and even autumn in dry weather every 3-5 days after full flower opening/blooming. Dried immediately after collection in ventilated shaded areas or in a dryer to 45 ° C.
Contents and properties: Calendula flowers contain mucus substances, carotene, rubixanthin, lycopine, paraffin type hydrocarbons, saponin, resins, phytoncides, vegetable proteins, flavonoids, organic acids (apple, pentadecyl, salicylic, ascorbic), essential oil. The above-ground green part of the herb is rich in tannins, triterpene saponins and the bitter substance kalepdin.
Healing effect and application: Calendula has antiseptic, antispasmodic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory and regenerative effects. The herb has antimicrobial, blood-purifying and anti-allergic effect. It helps with burns, wounds, operative and old scars, thanks to the phytochemicals it contains. It is used as a gargle for sore throat, has a good effect on pimples, acne and spots on the face. It is applied internally in the form of infusion when an ulcer appears or externally in the form of compresses, creams and ointments.
