Overblown stems and stems with unopened buds are not collected.
The plant forms thin, upright or slightly spreading stems covered with narrow linear leaves arranged in whorls. The flowers are small, bright yellow, and gathered in dense panicle-like inflorescences with a characteristic sweet aroma.
