Description

Roman chamomile is an aromatic herbaceous plant from the daisy family (Asteraceae). The correct accepted botanical name is Chamaemelum nobile (L.) All., while Anthemis nobilis L. is used as a synonym. The species is associated with Western Europe and Northwest Africa and is cultivated as an aromatic and herbal raw material.

The plant is low-growing, with prostrate or ascending stems, finely divided green leaves and aromatic flower heads with white ray florets and a yellow centre. Roman chamomile is known for its soft, fruity, apple-like aroma. The flowers are the main raw material for herbal products, essential oil, floral water, cosmetic formulations and aromatic applications.
