The tree reaches around 25–30 metres in height and forms a dense crown. Its leaves are heart-shaped, dark green on the upper surface and bluish-green underneath, with characteristic rusty hairs in the vein axils. The flowers are yellowish-white, fragrant and arranged in inflorescences with a strap-shaped bract.
